Reviewed 2 August 2026 · General planning information
Four to six weeks before
- Confirm settlement or tenancy dates before committing to a moving date.
- List large furniture, appliances, outdoor items and anything unusually heavy or fragile.
- Measure large items, doorways, hallways and stair turns.
- Arrange electricity, water, internet and mail redirection.
- Ask body corporate or property management about lift and loading requirements.
Check access at both addresses
Ipswich properties range from older Queenslanders and sloping blocks to new-estate homes, units and townhouses. Record driveway slope, street width, parking restrictions, stairs, lifts, gates and the walking distance between parking and the door.
Useful evidence: clear photos or a short video of access and large items can prevent an inaccurate scope.
One to two weeks before
- Finish decluttering before packing.
- Use sturdy boxes and label the destination room on multiple sides.
- Keep boxes liftable and separate books or dense items into smaller cartons.
- Plan safe handling for fridges, washing machines, bed frames and televisions.
- Keep medicines, keys, documents, chargers and overnight items with you.
Moving day
- Keep children and pets away from loading paths.
- Reserve lawful parking without blocking neighbours or emergency access.
- Point out fragile, high-value or pre-damaged items before handling begins.
- Walk through both properties before the vehicle leaves.
